Dammtorpark, Planten un Blomen, un parc dépaysant en plein coeur d’Hambourg
Away from the hustle and bustle of the port and the city, we discovered a quiet place to recharge our batteries right in the center of Hamburg.
Discovering the place
This large 47-hectare park, located northwest of the city center, is divided into 3 main areas: the Wallanlagen, the Wallringpark and the Alte Botanische garten. Created in 1821 by a German botanist with the planting of the first plane tree, the estate is now home to cultural, historical and natural elements.
We returned to the southern end of the park, starting with a beautiful view of the small lake (Wallgraben). We made our way up to the northernmost point of the park. We passed through different parts of the park with different atmospheres.
-
- Wallgraben: area with large lake and beautiful trees.
- Alter Botanischer Garten : large greenhouses with numerous plant species from all over the world, unfortunately closed at the time we were there (Autumn).
- Japanischer Garten: a beautiful Japanese garden with a small lake, a traditional house, Japanese-style shrubs and traditional wooden monuments. It’s even more beautiful in autumn colors.
- Rosengarten: a rose garden surrounding a small kiosk, the roses are certainly very beautiful in spring and summer, but unfortunately rarely in bloom in autumn.
- Apothekergarten: a pharmacy garden where you can discover a variety of medicinal plants and their benefits. Also closed in autumn.
- Parksee: A small lake with Japanese flagstones, deckchairs in the shade of tall trees and numerous ducks, this is a very relaxing and pleasant place to take a break from your walk.
Conclusion
We really enjoyed this bucolic stroll through the heart of the city, with a wide variety of areas for everyone to enjoy. Special mention should be made of the Japanese garden (which is of high quality and free of charge) and the area around the Parksee, which is a very pleasant place to spend a quiet moment.
